Fitness - in gay surrey

Welcome to our Fitness section

There's a myth that gay and sports are an oxymoron. Gay Surrey wants to prove how wrong this is by presenting some of the great activities on offer in and around the Surrey area

Clubs

Gay Outdoor Club
operates throughout the UK and provides a wide range of outdoor and indoor sports and recreational activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender men and women. These activities include walking, cycling, swimming, badminton, climbing, canoeing, caving, mountaineering, and skiing. GOC has over 1500 members and offers up to one hundred meets per month, in this country and overseas.

Cycling

CycleOut
CycleOut is a gay cycling club with a programme cycling events centered on London and South East England. While our day rides are planned in areas within easy reach of London we have throughout the year a number of weekend or longer trips in locations across the Britain and Europe. We therefore welcome members from not only the London area but from across the country who wish to join us on our trips or travel to the area. With bikes ranging from MTB to tourers and folding bikes somewhere in the middle we aim to have a mixed programme. With cycling on-road from gentle day rides to grand tours and mountain biking off-road from cycle tracks and towpaths to treks in the hills and forests

Golf

IRONS GOLF SOCIETY
We are a friendly and competitive society of gay and lesbian golfers, of all ages and levels of skill. We were established in 1996 and presently have about 100 members.   We hold monthly meetings between March and November, usually on a Sunday, at courses in and around the M25 area.  These meetings are usually attended by between 20 and 30 golfers. The usual cost for each event is between £30 - £35, or so which includes the golf, light refreshments before starting and the prize fund.

We have a few, longer, meetings each year when we go further afield.  In 2007 meetings were in Bristol , South Wales, Lincolnshire and Normandy. In the past we have been to Spain, Carolina, Italy and Turkey.

Health Clubs

Scuba Diving

GLUG
The Gay & Lesbian Underwater Group (GLUG) is a non-profit Scuba Diving club for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered divers and their friends.

We have over 100 members, (around 35% women, 65% men), throughout the UK, and our ages range from mid-20s to late 50s.

We organise at least 10 dive trips in the UK and overseas each year.

We don't discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation! Although the club is aimed at the gay community, we have one or two enlightened straight divers who find our club a refreshing change from the very macho, hetero-male environment in many other clubs

Tennis

The CAGS Tennis Group
The CAGS Tennis Group was established in 1977. Members play every Sunday throughout the year at Thornton Heath. Highlights of the year are the spring and autumn Finals Days, and the associated Finals Parties. New members are welcome, but are required to join CAGS (Croydon Area Gay Society). Anyone wishing to play should contact the group by telephone first. A reasonable standard of tennis is expected.

Walking

Gay Sunday Walking
Whether you call it walking, hiking or rambling the Gay Sunday Walking group goes out and enjoys it in London, Middx, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Berks, Bucks, Beds and Herts on one all-day and one half-day walk each month.

The all day walks are 8 to 15 miles long usually starting and finishing at a railway station within an hour's travel from a London terminus. There is a lunchtime stop at a pub serving food. The half-days are 3 to 6 miles and mostly start at a pub. Some years there are also weeks and weekends away.

GSWG's membership costs £5 a year for four walks' notices and newsletters, and tea after the AGM and December walks. It is open to gay men, lesbians and straights with a positive attitude. There are around 160 members, most of them gay men. Between 15 and 40 people join a walk.
